BOSTON – The 1199SEIU League Training & Upgrading Fund, a Quincy-based organization dedicated to helping healthcare workers throughout Massachusetts with career and educational advising, was recently named the recipient of $500,000 from the state’s Executive Office of Labor & Workforce Development to pay for training and placement services for 100 underemployed and unemployed certified nursing assistants.

The state’s Sen. Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant is funded through the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Recent allocations are a part of the Massachusetts Workforce Skills Cabinet’s ongoing effort to align public and private resources to create effective career pathways for Massachusetts residents and employers.

The Massachusetts 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund is a negotiated benefit between multiple healthcare employers and 1199SEIU covering 44,000 employees. The organization applied for the grant in partnership with Steward Morton Hospital, Steward Saint Anne’s Hospital, and Steward Good Samaritan Medical Center.
