MASSDOT Expands Seasonal Work Program to Include 16 & 17-year-old workers

MassDOT recently announced it will be expanding its Seasonal Highway Labor Program, which previously only hired workers who were at least 18-years-old, to being able to hire for 16 and 17-year-old workers. These seasonal jobs will be available throughout Massachusetts this summer, running from June 6 through August 26.

The standard work week for these positions is full-time Monday through Friday with start times for shifts vary depending upon placement. Positions are available at MassDOT Districts and Depots throughout the state of Massachusetts.

Those selected will perform outside maintenance functions that include sweeping, painting, litter pick up, and performing general highway beautification.

Locations:

District 1 – Berkshire County/Western MA

District 2 – Pioneer Valley/Western MA

District 3 – Worcester County/Central, MA

District 4 – Northeastern MA

District 5 – Southeastern/Cape & Islands

District 6 – Metro Boston

Pay will range from $16 to $18 an hour.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

All job applications must be submitted online through MassCareers to be considered.

Applicants must be:

• 16 years or older. If you are under 18 years of age, you must obtain a work permit before starting.

Executive Order #595: As a condition of employment, successful applicants will be required to have received COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption as of their start date. Details relating to demonstrating compliance with this requirement will be provided to applicants selected for employment. Applicants who receive an offer of employment who can provide documentation that the vaccine is medically contraindicated or who object to vaccination due to a sincerely held religious belief may make a request for exemption.
